INTAKE AND STORAGE
Carefully selected barley consignments are delivered to Malting Plants. These are most often transported in bulk form, but occasionally delivered in sacks. Very high standards of handling and storage must be available at the Malting Plant to ensure the quality of the selected barley is maintained.
Don Valley Engineering provides proven designs of intake and storage for malting barley:-
INTAKE SYSTEMS - typical
- Laboratory Sampling
- Weighing
- Rough Screening
- Artificial Drying (when necessary, to a max M/C of 12%)
- Gentle Transfer to bulk storage
BULK STORAGE – various forms which may include
- Nests of circular or rectangular bins in steel or concrete
- Flat bottom bins
- Horizontal storage sheds
It is essential that during the storage period the quality of the barley is maintained, which often demands ventilation to assist keeping the barley cool and in good condition.
